Forget Not
“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”
— Psalm 103:2 (NIV)
Israel crossed the Red Sea with miracles fresh in memory. Weeks later they grumbled for meat and forgot the manna at their feet. Psalm 103 says: bless the Lord, my soul, and forget not His benefits. David writes to his own soul because good gifts slip away fast unless you stop and count them.
Thursday after work. The day blurs: emails, traffic, dishes waiting in the sink. You almost forgot the call that went well at ten a.m. and the friend who checked on you at lunch. Stop at the kitchen counter one minute. Name one benefit before you ask God for more.
Five Benefits
- 1At dinner, ask each person present to name one benefit from God this week. If alone, call one friend and swap lists.
- 2Write five benefits on paper. Read the list aloud before bed.
Lord, I almost forgot the good call at ten and my friend's text at lunch. Awaken my soul to remember Your benefits tonight at this counter.
Which of God's benefits have you forgotten that you need to name tonight?
What are benefits here?
Concrete gifts from God, forgiveness, healing, protection, daily provision, love.
Why talk to your soul?
The self needs directing, feelings drift, remembrance is chosen.
How is this different from positive thinking?
It names specific acts of God, not generic optimism.
