Go and Tell

Anchor
He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'

Mark 16:15 (NIV)

What it means

These are some of Jesus' last recorded words in Mark's Gospel. Think about who He said them to. The same disciples who ran away when He was arrested. Peter, who denied Him three times. None of them had a résumé. Jesus doesn't wait until they are qualified. He says: 'Go.' The word 'preach' here is not a pulpit. It literally means 'herald' — a person who walks into town and says out loud what just happened. And what just happened? He rose. That's the whole message.

In your life

Today is St. Mark's day. Mark was not one of the twelve. He failed on his first mission trip and had to go home. Paul didn't want him back. And yet — Mark wrote one of the four Gospels. You are reading him right now. The point is: Jesus' 'Go' is not for perfect people. It is for ordinary people who have seen something real. Someone in your life this week needs to hear, not a sermon, but one sentence about Jesus you actually believe. That's it. That's 'go and tell.'

Today's challenge

Tell One Person

  • 1Think of one person in your life who does not know Jesus, or is drifting.
  • 2Today, send them one short message with something true about how God is real in your life. No preaching. One sentence.
Prayer

Jesus, You sent ordinary people. You sent Mark after he failed. Send me today. Give me one person, one sentence. I'll go.

Reflect

Who in your life needs one sentence from you about Jesus this week — and what would that sentence be?
