Help My Unbelief

Anchor
Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, 'I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!'

Mark 9:24 (NIV)

What it means

A father brought his son to Jesus. The boy convulsed and foamed at the mouth. The disciples could not help. The father cried with tears: I believe; help my unbelief! Jesus did not send him away for mixed faith. He healed the boy right after that honest cry.

In your life

Sunday after church. Your child or friend still struggles and you prayed all week. Part of you trusts Jesus. Part of you whispers, will anything change? Say the father's sentence out loud in the car. Jesus heard him. He can hear you too.

Today's challenge

Both-And Prayer

  • 1Pray aloud once with someone you trust: 'I believe; help my unbelief.' Let them say amen after you.
  • 2Write three lines: what you believe, what you doubt, one thing you need Jesus to help with today.
Prayer

Jesus, I said those words in the car today with shaky faith. Help my unbelief about what still has not changed. Meet me there like You met that father.

Reflect

What part of your faith needs help today, not hiding, but asking?

Common questions
Did Jesus heal after this prayer?

Yes. Honest faith that asks for help is welcomed, not shamed.

Is doubt the opposite of faith?

Doubt often lives beside faith. The turn is bringing both to Jesus.

Can I pray this repeatedly?

Absolutely. It is a lifelong honest conversation, not a one-time fix.
