He Loved First
“We love because he first loved us.”
— 1 John 4:19 (NIV)
In his letter John watched churches split over who was spiritual enough. He pointed back: we love because He first loved us. Love does not begin with your scorecard. It begins when you receive what God already gave at the cross. Then love can flow without crushing pressure on your shoulders.
Sunday after church or lunch with family. You helped clear plates, smiled when tired, checked if everyone was okay. Your shoulders ache from trying to be enough. Rest them one minute. You were loved before you served anyone today.
Receive Before You Give
- 1Read aloud once: 'God loved me first.' Sit with that for thirty seconds.
- 2Tell one person face to face or by call why you are glad they are in your life. No task attached.
Father, my shoulders hurt from serving today. Remind me I was loved before I cleared a single plate.
Where are you trying to earn love instead of receiving it first?
Does this mean we cannot love without God?
It means our best love is healed and fueled when we receive His love first.
What if I do not feel loved?
The fact stands before the feeling. Practice receiving in small honest steps.
