Come Away
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'”
— Mark 6:31 (NIV)
Jesus and His disciples had just finished feeding five thousand people. Crowds kept coming. They had not even eaten. Jesus did not say push harder. He said: come away and rest. He knew tired helpers burn out fast. Rest with Him was part of faithful work, not a reward for finishing.
Chores wait on the counter. Your body is tired. Guilt says keep going. Jesus saw hungry, exhausted friends and told them to stop. You have permission to rest before the list is done.
Twenty Quiet Minutes
- 1Block twenty minutes. Phone in another room. Sit by a window or walk without earbuds.
- 2Ask someone at home to cover one small task so you can actually stop.
Jesus, I keep running even on my day off. Call me away like You called Your tired friends. Restore what this week drained from me.
What would change if you treated rest as obedience, not guilt?
Is rest selfish when needs are many?
Jesus commanded rest for people serving real needs. Caring for your limits helps you care for others longer.
What if I cannot leave for a whole day?
Start small, twenty quiet minutes, a slow meal, a walk without input. Rest can be a doorway, not a vacation.
How is rest spiritual?
It acknowledges you are not God. You stop producing and receive care from the One who sustains you.
