Lean, Don't Steer
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
— Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
'All your heart' means the whole you, not half trust and half control. 'Lean not on your own understanding' warns that your best logic can miss God's bigger picture. Submit your ways, and He directs the road.
Friday afternoon. You mapped the weekend: chores, people, maybe rest. One plan already wobbled. Trust sounds like letting go of the wheel while you still drive.
One Open Hand
- 1Hold one fist for ten seconds. Open your palm and name one plan you are gripping.
- 2Tell God: 'I submit this. Straighten what I cannot.' Then take one small faithful step.
Lord, I lean on my own read of things too often. I submit my ways to You. Make my path straight as I walk.
Which plan are you steering so hard that trust has no room?
Does trusting God mean doing nothing?
No. You still walk. Trust means you stop forcing outcomes God never asked you to carry alone.
What is 'submit in all your ways'?
It means inviting God into decisions, work, rest, relationships, not only Sunday thoughts.
How do I know the path is straightening?
Sometimes you see it clearly; sometimes you simply keep walking faithfully while peace grows in the process.
