Called Children of God
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”
— 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
John says look — see the love. The Father lavished it on us. We are called children of God, and that is real, not pretend. The world may not recognize you because it did not recognize Him first.
You may feel unnamed — by success metrics, by rejection, by your past. John says your deepest name is child of God. That is not earned today. It is given. Let that name speak louder than every other label.
Wear Your Name
- 1Write 'Child of God' on a note where you will see it today.
- 2When shame speaks, read it aloud and thank the Father for His love.
Father, You lavished love on me. I am Your child. Help me live from that name today.
Which label competes with 'child of God' in your heart today?
What does 'lavished' mean?
God poured out love generously — more than enough — not sparing or minimal affection.
How are we 'called' children of God?
Through faith in Christ, God adopts believers into His family. The name is gift, not achievement.
Why mention the world not knowing us?
Believers share Christ's identity. A world that rejected Him may misunderstand those who belong to Him.
