Light of the World
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'”
— John 8:12 (NIV)
Jesus claims to be the light of the world — not a teacher of ideas alone. Whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness. Following means staying close, learning His way. He gives the light of life.
You may feel lost in a decision, a habit, or a season of doubt. Jesus does not say follow perfectly. He says follow Me. One step toward Him today — prayer, honesty, obedience — is walking in light.
One Step of Following
- 1Identify one area where you feel 'in the dark' today.
- 2Take one concrete step of obedience or honesty toward Jesus in that area.
Jesus, You are the light of the world. I follow You today. Lead me out of darkness into Your light of life.
Where do you need to take one step of following Jesus instead of staying in the dark?
What does 'walk in darkness' mean?
Living without God's guidance and truth — confusion, sin, fear, or separation from Christ.
How do we follow Jesus daily?
Through trust, obedience, prayer, and Scripture — staying close to Him in ordinary choices.
What is 'the light of life'?
Life illuminated and sustained by Christ — purpose, truth, and hope that darkness cannot extinguish.
