Abide, Don't Strive
Anchor
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
— John 15:5 (NIV)
What it means
Jesus gives a living picture: vine and branches. Branches do not produce by strain but by connection. Fruit is the outcome of abiding, not self-powered effort. 'Apart from me you can do nothing' is not shame language; it is reality language.
In your life
When life gets crowded, intimacy with Jesus is often the first thing cut and the first thing needed. This verse invites reversal. Start from connection, then move into tasks. Lasting fruit grows from communion, not from adrenaline.
Today's challenge
Reconnect Before Output
- 1Take ten minutes before your main work block to sit with Jesus in silence and Scripture.
- 2Begin your work only after praying: 'Keep me connected to You while I do this.'
Prayer
Jesus, I choose abiding over striving. Keep me rooted in You so that whatever I do flows from Your life.
Reflect
Where are you demanding fruit from yourself without first staying connected to Christ?
