You Know My Voice

Anchor
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one.

John 10:27-30 (NIV)

What it means

Jesus says three things about His sheep. They hear His voice. He knows them. They follow Him. Then He makes a promise that stacks up like locks on a door: I give them eternal life. They will not perish. Nobody can snatch them out of My hand. Then He doubles it: and nobody can snatch them out of the Father's hand either. Your safety is inside two hands at once. That is not anxious faith. That is held faith.

In your life

It is Sunday of the Good Shepherd. The whole world this week has thrown at you a hundred voices: news, scroll, opinions about you, opinions you have about yourself. Jesus says something disarming: you know My voice. Not 'you will someday.' Now. The voice that calms you, that quiets the shame, that calls you by name — that is Him. Your identity this week is not in what people said about you. It's in Whose hand you are in. And He is not letting go.

Today's challenge

Listen for One Voice

  • 1Sit for two minutes with one question: 'Jesus, what is one thing You want to say to me today?'
  • 2Don't force an answer. Notice what rises — a word, a phrase, a feeling of being loved. Write it down if you can.
Prayer

Shepherd, quiet the other voices. I want to hear Yours today. I am in Your hand — and I am in the Father's hand. I will follow where You lead.

Reflect

Which voice have you been listening to most this week — and does it sound like the Shepherd?
