Before You Got It Right
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8 (NIV)
Paul is making a simple, shocking point. Most love waits. You have to do something first — be kind, be worthy, clean yourself up — then you get loved. Not God. Paul says: Christ did not die for us after we got our act together. He died for us while we were still a mess. 'Still sinners' means: still lying, still hiding, still ashamed. That is when the cross happened. That is the timing. That is the grace.
It is the end of the week. You probably know what you did this week that you are not proud of — the lost patience, the scroll you couldn't stop, the thing you said. Religion tells you: go fix it first, then God will want you. This verse says the opposite: He already ran toward you while you were still in the middle of it. You do not earn grace after the mess. You receive grace inside the mess. That is what changes you.
Stop Earning, Start Receiving
- 1Name one thing from this week you're ashamed of — one real thing.
- 2Say out loud: 'While I was still in that, Christ already died for me. I don't have to fix it first to be loved.'
Jesus, You did not wait for me to be ready. You came while I was still in it. Thank You. Today I stop performing and just receive what You already gave.
What are you still trying to earn from God that He already gave you at the cross?
