He Stood Among Them
“While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with you.'”
— Luke 24:36 (NIV)
The disciples had just come back from Emmaus, telling everyone they had seen Jesus. They were still afraid — the doors were locked. And then Jesus simply 'stood among them.' No fanfare. He walks into the middle of their conversation. His first words? 'Peace be with you.' In His language — 'shalom' — this is not 'no fighting.' It means wholeness, safety, the feeling that everything is finally okay.
You know this scene: you talk about God, but inside you are still afraid. You pray, and the restlessness stays. Jesus does not wait for you to finish doubting. He walks into the middle of your day, even when the door of your heart is locked. His first word to you is not 'finally, you got it together.' It is 'peace.' Not 'calm down.' More like: 'with Me here, it is okay.'
Invite Him Into the Conversation
- 1Pick one worry you have been 'talking about' today — in your head, with someone, or to yourself.
- 2Say out loud: 'Jesus, stand in the middle of this. Give me Your peace.' Then stay silent for thirty seconds and listen.
Jesus, You walk through locked doors. Stand in the middle of my thoughts today. Speak 'peace' to me like You spoke it to the disciples. I believe You are closer than I think.
What conversation — in your head or with someone — does Jesus want to step into today?
