Romans 4:20: Refuse to Waver at the Promise of God
“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.”
— Romans 4:20 (NIV)
Paul says Abraham "staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief." That does not mean Abraham never felt the weight of delay; it means delay did not become his final authority. Faith in this verse is the steady refusal to let visible contradiction outrank what God has promised.
You may know what God has said and still feel the drag of time, uncertainty, and opposing evidence. Let "the promise of God" stay heavier in you than the contradiction in front of you. Mature faith is not the absence of tension, but the refusal to let tension rewrite what God has spoken.
Hold the promise of God where delay shakes you
- 1Name one promise of God you know but have been carrying with less confidence lately.
- 2Notice what visible contradiction has been tempting you to "stagger" away from that promise.
- 3Answer that contradiction with one concrete act of trust today.
Father, where I feel myself ready to "stagger" at the promise of God, strengthen me to stay aligned with what You have said.
Where is visible contradiction pressuring you to treat the promise of God as less solid than it really is?
