Psalm 85:8: Listen Until Peace Becomes Clear
“I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people.”
— Psalm 85:8 (NIV)
The psalmist says, "I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace." Peace here is connected to listening. It does not grow from mental noise, endless reacting, or self-talk that never slows down. This verse teaches that peace becomes clearer when a person quiets down enough to let God speak louder than the inner storm.
Your mind may already be crowded with imagined outcomes, rehearsed conversations, and half-formed fears. In that state, everything feels urgent and nothing feels settled. Stop filling every silence for a moment and let "He will speak peace" stand over the thought that has been driving your nervous system all day.
Make room to hear "He will speak peace"
- 1Create one short pocket of quiet today without notifications, background noise, or multitasking.
- 2Bring your most anxious thought into that quiet and place it under the words "He will speak peace."
- 3Write down the truest thing God is calling you to remember before you re-enter the noise.
Father, where my mind keeps racing, teach me to hear that "He will speak peace" before anxiety names the day for me.
What becomes possible in you when "He will speak peace" gets more room than the noise in your head?
