Worship Ministry is about growing a heart of worship that wants to worship God 24/7 as we live a life that honors Him. Worship is not contained in a 75 minute service (especially with Pastor Dan’s teaching!) But a life of worship gains fuel and passion from times of worship, individually and collectively. That is our goal in Covenant Worship: All of us moving toward all God is with all we have giving all our lives to Jesus.
Worship cannot be reduced to music skills, singing or rhythms. These are all components of worship elements but WORSHIP is about meeting with God. Worship is about engaging our heart, soul, mind and strength to focus on the Greatness of God. Worship is about expressing our love for God that is sparked by His love for us.
Worship is about meeting God in quiet thought before anyone else arrives for a worship service. Worship is about praying personally or corporately for God to move in our hearts. Worship is about giving a tithe and offering to God in faith that He will meet the needs we create in our financial plan through giving our gifts. Worship is participating in singing praises to God. Worship is about hearing God’s Word, learning His wisdom and applying it to our lives as we obey His Word. Worship is about receiving others as God receives us in Christ. Worship is about sharing one another’s burdens and joys.
Worship needs to be as big as God is. For that is how worthy He is to be praised. From the rising of the sun to its setting God is to be praised. We will never grow perfect in worship until we see the Lamb in the New Heavens and Earth. And even then, our worship will grow as we offer it forever through our lives as we live His purposes into eternity.
Covenant’s worship music is a contemporary blend of worship songs, from the new songs of such artists as Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin, Tommy Walker, and Hillsong United, to the traditional hymns of the church in new settings; from rhythmic island sounds, to the light jazz arrangements for choir of Carol Cymbala and Brooklyn Tab. On any given Sunday you may hear the Covenant Singers singing a cappella, to a fully orchestrated track, or with the live sounds of Covenant’s versatile worship bands. You will join the congregation in worship, singing energetic praise songs lifting the name of Jesus; reflective folk melodies speaking to the hearts of believers; old and newly written hymns of the church teaching and reinforcing the doctrines of the faith; and the familiar sounds of gospel music drawing us into deeper fellowship with His Spirit, as believers stand and together worship our mighty God.
Worship Bands
The worship bands currently include bass, electric, and acoustic guitars, synthesizers, keyboards, drums, and vocals. We are expanding, adding new members and developing new bands, and would love to add some brass instruments. Worship bands are open to high school through adult ages. An interview and audition is required. Interested instrumentalist should contact DelMorgan@covenantlife.net .
The Covenant Singers
This exciting vocal group sings in both morning worship services, two to three times monthly. The group consists of high school through adult ages. Auditions are not required. While the Covenant Singers includes many gifted musicians, it is also home to many beginning vocalists. Aside from age, there are only four requirements for entry into this group: 1) A desire to lift up the name of Jesus, 2) a willingness to work hard, 3) a teachable spirit, and 4) faithfulness to rehearsal and performance. These requirements help us grow together in Christ, and to maintain a level of excellence that allows this group to effectively lead in worship. Weekly rehearsals – Sunday evenings, 6:00 – 7:30 PM – are held from September through June. Interested singers are invited to join a rehearsal at any time!
Tech Team
Audio, Lighting, and projection (computer/video)
The tech team plays an important role in our worship ministry. If you have skills in one or all of these areas, or have an interest and want to develop skills, there is a place of service for you. An interview and training are required.
